A HAMPSHIRE business has donated a defibrillator to its neighbouring school.

After seeing the Daily Echo campaign to have defibrillators in schools across Hampshire, Stuart Deas was inspired to make a difference in his community.

Now the managing director of HP Contracts has delivered the vital equipment to Shakespeare Junior School in Eastleigh.

The defibrillator will be kept on the school site in case of life-threatening emergencies.

Stuart said: “I first saw the story about the young boy who nearly died and the equipment saved him and read that not many schools in our local area have them.

“As a business we donate money to local charities and decided, why not help someone directly with the money and provide a local service for the children.

“If all local companies bought a defibrillator and gave it to a school that didn’t have one we would probably help all the local children.

As previously reported, the Daily Echo launched a campaign after a 16-year-old pupil was saved with a defibrillator when he suffered a heart attack during a PE lesson at a Romsey school.

Quick-thinking Mountbatten teachers shocked Sam Mangoro with the device four times, keeping his heart beating until the paramedics arrived.

Shakespeare Junior School’s site manager John Troke said: “Hopefully it sits on that wall and never gets used but it’s good to have something there that could save someone’s life.

“Every second counts in that sort of situation.

This defibrillator is such a good gesture from a local business, they are really giving something back to their community.

“The Echo campaign is a fantastic thing and I think the people in Southampton have seen the importance of having defibrillators in our schools or in any public place. The equipment is foolproof, I have complete trust in it.”
