A HAMPSHIRE schoolboy is set to take part in his third British Transplant Games – thanks to a charity event that raised hundreds of pounds.

Ten-year-old Tai Goddard is due to line up alongside a large number of other young athletes when the games take place at Bolton in August.

Tai, of Brightwire Crescent in Eastleigh, suffered renal failure as a baby and started dialysis a few months later.

The Norwood Primary School pupil was six years old when he underwent a kidney transplant at the Evelina London Children’s Hospital in 2010.

Tai and some of his fellow Evelina patients took part in transplant games at Bath and Belfast, where he won two bronze medals.

Now The Arrow pub in Eastleigh has staged a family fun day to help fund the cost of sending him to this year’s event.

Tai and his mum Claire dressed as Batman and Batgirl for the fun day, which is thought to have raised about £500.

Claire said: “Tai had his transplant four years ago and has never looked back.

“It’s given him a whole new life. All the people who take part in the games are just like him, which gives him a confidence boost.”
