A hunt has been launched for a man who tried to grab a young Hampshire mum and punched her as she walked with her daughter.

The attacked happened at 9.15am as the 21-year-old was walking along a cut though with her young daughter.

A man is reported to have grabbed her by the arm and when she pulled away he punched her in the face before running away.

Nothing was taken during the unprovoked assault and the victim was left with a cut to her cheek.

Police investigating an assault the cut through from Beach Road to West Town Park on Hayling Island are appealing for a key witness to come forward.

The man is described by the victim as:

• White.

• Approximately 5ft 8ins tall.

• Medium to stocky build.

• Wearing a dark blue zip up hooded top, which was zipped up with the hood over his head and covering his face.

• Also wearing dark coloured tracksuit bottoms and dirty white trainers.

Officers are treating this as an isolated incident and are particularily keen to speak to a woman who was out walking her dog at the time and who spoke to the victim following the assault.
