SEVENTY years to the day since the invasion of the Normandy beaches, a special concert in Southampton on Friday will honour the Allies who were so bravely involved in Operation Overlord on June 6, 1944.

The D-Day 70 Concert will feature the music of the Band of the Hampshire Constabulary under the baton of director of music Major Pete Curtis, MBE RM.

Compered by BBC TV’s Songs of Praise presenter Pam Rhodes, the audience will include guest of honour Dame Mary Fagan, the Lord-Lieutenant of Hampshire.

The concert is organised by the Tug Tender Calshot Trust and takes place at Dock Gate 4 at 7pm.

Tickets, priced £10, will be available from Ocean Terminal on the night or in advance from Solent Sky Aviation Museum, Southern Daily Echo offices or by calling 023 8077 4717.
