A GIRL Guide from Hampshire who is hoping to fund a trip to Mexico is holding a fundraising barn dance.

Katie Blakehas organised the event at Swanmore College on June 7 to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support and Girl Guiding.

Bursledon Band will be talking through the dance steps with party-goers, who are asked to bring their own drinks and food to the event, which runs between 7.30pm and 11pm.

There is a raffle with prizes donated by local businesses.

Katie, of Swanmore, is a member of the 1st Bishop’s Waltham Senior Section and a young leader at 4th Bishop’s Waltham Guides.

The 15-year-old was selected from hundreds of hopefuls.

Her two-week trip alongside Guides and Scouts from all over the world is expected to cost £2,000.

She has already done a number of fundraising events such as other barn dances, selling home-made produce, coffee mornings, recycling clothes and also did a 24- hour fast all alongside revising for her GCSEs.

She will stay at Our Cabana, one of four world centres run by the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts.

Katie chose to raise money for MacMillan as well because her grandfather has been diagnosed with terminal cancer.

Tickets to the dance cost £10.
