POLICE are set to begin their summer-long campaign against drink driving.
Hampshire Constabulary has teamed up with forces from across the country to crack down on motorists driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
The campaign is being launched tomorrow ahead of the World Cup, with a theme of “the morning after”.
Police are keen to press home the message that you could still be over the limit after a night's sleep.
Over the next few months the force will be sending out extra teams to carry out drink and drug tests on motorists across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
They will be testing motorists throughout the day and the night, and officers Hampshire and Thames Valley's head of roads policing, Superintendent Lucy Hutson said: “After just four pints of lager, you may not be safe to drive for up to 13 hours, so whether you are drinking in the afternoon at a summer barbeque, drinking while you watch a World Cup football game or going out for a few drinks in the evening, make sure you are safe to drive.
“Just because you haven't had a drink for a few hours, it doesn't mean all the alcohol has left your system and you can drive, you are still likely to be over the limit.”
