A HAMPSHIRE food bank has marked its commitment to the community by staging an open day.

The event, at Hound Basics, was a chance for people to learn more about the work of the facility and the need for it and attracted 40 helpers, parish councillors, supporters and referral agents.

Tonia Craig, councillor for Bursledon and Old Netley, spoke of the community need and the importance of food banks.

The bank serves the Bursledon, Hamblele- Rice and Netley parishes and even though in its early stages, has already served more than 100 people.

Hound Basics grew out of community concern at Netley Christian Fellowship, but was set up with help from other food banks. It is supported by numerous local individuals and businesses.
