TWO former councillors in Southampton are to be recognised for their service to the city.

Carol Cunio and Gerry Drake will be named as honorary aldermen at a council meeting on Wednesday.

Long-standing Woolston Labour councillor and former mayor Mrs Cunio stood down before last month’s city council elections.

Former Liberal Democrat councillor Gerry Drake, who represented Peartree for 19 years, resigned in 2012.

The title of honorary alderman is bestowed on former councillors with a long and distinguished history of service to the city.
