THE following takes place between 6.30pm and 5.30am.

Action hero Jack Bauer is heading to Southampton as he continues his mission to save the world from terrorists plotting to murder millions.

Southampton’s docks will get a touch of Hollywood glamour as filming of the hit US drama 24 comes to the city tomorrow evening, complete with gun fights on board a small container ship and explosions on Southampton Water.

It comes as London was the chosen destination for the long-awaited ninth series of the Fox show, 24: Live Another Day.

Fans have already watched the former CIA agent, played by Kiefer Sutherland, hopping off of the Northern Line in pursuit of the bad guys and force his way into the US Embassy but now it seems Southampton is next for some action-packed stunts.T

As viewers across the county settle down tomorrow night to watch the latest episode of the new series aired on Sky, they will be just a few miles from the live action shoot.

It is understood that up to 180 crew will descend on the city for the overnight shoots tomorrow and Thursday at DP World’s Container Terminal.

A DP World Southampton spokesperson said: “We are extremely excited to have a major production like 24 filming at the terminal. It’s a great opportunity to promote the port and city.

“This is the first time an American network has shot an entire TV series in the UK, so it’s appropriate that it should be filmed at the UK’s most productive container terminal.”

In the latest series of 24, fugitive Jack is back after four years on the run, along with sidekick Chloe O’Brian, as he tries to prevent an assassination attempt on the visiting US President with a hijacked drone.

A spokesperson for 24: Live Another Day confirmed that they are still filming for the current series, something which the show has always done.

She added: “24: Live Another Day is very happy to be working with Southampton, the city council and the docks.”

Residents in the area have been sent a letter from Twentieth Century Fox UK Productions Ltd informing them what to expect to prevent unnecessary concern or calls to police if they should hear gun fire or explosions.

It reads: “The action to be filmed will involve some gun fire and pyrotechnics. Due to the nature of the scenes our exterior shots are set at night.

“We are a professional and conscientious crew who will make every effort to keep noise and disturbance down to a bare minimum.”

It adds that police have been informed of the filming, as well as the Harbour Master and ABP.

  • 24: Live Another Day is aired at 9pm, tomorrow, on Sky1.

At least they don't need to bring their own explosives, past news stories show we have a fair few unexploded devices they can use.

I've been enjoying this current series of 24. On Wed, Sky One are half-way through, having shown 6 of the 12 episodes of this season. Considering these are on weekly they'll have to move very quick to get it all edited, scored, sound-dubbed, etc
It'll be worth buying the DVD set too, for their behind-the-scenes docs on the filming at Southampton, especially seeing as now we know where they'll be, there'll probably be a flood of fans heading down to try and get a sight of them filming, even if from a distance.
