SIKHS from Southampton gathered to celebrate the life of one of their faith’s founding fathers.

About 500 worshippers went to the city’s gurdwara Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib in St Mary’s to remember the life of guru Arjan Dev Ji.

Arjan Dev Ji is one of the faith’s ten founding members, who on Sunday was being remembered by hundreds of millions of people who follow the faith worldwide.

The ceremony marked the end of prayers being recited continually for 48 hours at the city’s gurdwaras.

At Derby Road the congregation joined for prayers before an appearance by poets and singers to give praise for the life of Arjan Dev Ji.

Afterwards people shared a meal together.

Channon Roath, of the temples, said: “It was overwhelming and the community are indebted to every attendee who came.”
