SHE has been challenged to lead mental health services in the south into a bright future.

The board of Solent NHS Trust has appointed Sue Harriman as its new chief executive, succeeding previous boss Dr Ros Tolcher.

She is the former deputy chief executive at Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust which primarily provided community and mental health care.

Ms Harriman, a registered nurse who spent 16 years in the Royal Navy, said: “I am delighted to be joining Solent NHS Trust at such a very exciting time for the organisation. Having worked closely with the trust during my time at Southern Health I am very aware of the organisation’s excellent work, and I feel privileged to have the opportunity to lead this into the future.

“Delivering high quality patient care and ensuring staff are recognised as our biggest strengths are close to my heart, and I look forward to building on the strong foundations set by Ros and her team.”

The trust described the recruitment process as “rigorous” and also declined to reveal the salary of the role.
