A HAMPSHIRE home has been taped off by police who are standing guard outside.

An officer is currently parked outside an end of terrace house in Water Lane, Totton, close to the junction of Bishops Close.

An 84-year-old woman and her son in his 60s live in the house.

He is believed to have been the sole carer after her husband died and they have lived there at least 18 years.

Neighbours have said that police have been at the house for most of the day, having arrived early this morning.

A police van had been parked up outside but it has now driven off.

The elderly lady was taken to hospital by ambulance at 2.30pm yesterday and police arrived at the house shortly afterwards.

Judith Wright, 69, also of Bishops Close saw the woman being carried to the ambulance.

She said: "I was in the garden and saw ambulance and paramedics.

"This is a quiet area with many old people and to see something like this is very rare."

Lesley Bull from Bishops Close said: "In a place like this if you have something out of the ordinary it makes you wonder what's going on."

South Central Ambulance Service has confirmed that they were called to an address in Water Lane at 11am yesterday.

One Rapid Response vehicle and an ambulance attended and one patient was taken to Southampton General Hospital.

Neighbours also report seeing what they thought was a forensics officer in a white suit arriving in a white van this morning.

A 40-year-old woman who did not give her name said: "It looks serious."the police have been there all day."

Rachel Smith, 29, from Water Lane said: "At first I thought it was a burglary.

"But to have police there for more than 24 hours is odd. It may be something more concerning."
