TWO pensioners were rushed to hospital tonight after a three-car pile-up.

One of the cars flipped on to its roof in the collision on the A3090 Straight Mile in Romsey at 4.15pm.

A blue Mazda 3TS, a Vauxhall Corsa and a blue Honda Jazz collided between Crampmoor Lane and Jermyns Lane.

Firefighters from Romsey fire station cut two elderly people from the overturned Jazz.

A man in his 80s suffered multiple injuries and was taken to Southampton General Hospital by ambulance with the female pensioner who was also hurt.

Crews freed another trapped occupant who required no hospital treatment and was checked at the roadside by paramedics.

The road was sealed off for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance to land but it was not required.

The route reopened at 7pm after the wreckage was cleared.
