Jellyfish the size of dustbin washed up on Eastney beach in Portsmouth

Daily Echo: Jellyfish the size of dustbin washed up on beach Jellyfish the size of dustbin washed up on beach

A JELLYFISH the size of a dustbin has been found washed up on the Hampshire coastline.

The huge beast which was later identified as a barrel jellyfish was discovered by a man fishing with his family at one of the county's beaches.

It comes a month after another giant barrel jellyfish was found in Dorset, and others were found on various beaches on the south coast.

This latest jellyfish was spotted at Eastney beach in Portsmouth.

Richard Harrington, of the Marine Conservation Society, said: “This predicted hot weather to come could mean even more jellyfish are likely to wash up or be in the seas.

“Although this species is harmless their numbers are likely to grow quickly as sea temperatures rise.”

Just means the channel currents have push them close to the coast line, back in the early 70's we had loin mane jellyfish some went to 3 to 4 foot across in size wash up the rivers and on the shores, the docks was loaded with them, normally they follow the center channel current enter the north sea and die, but every so often the currents in the channel move north wards pushing the real large jelly fish close to the shores

You see? Global warming is not all bad. If you are a jellyfish.

Makes a change from a dustbin the size of a jellyfish and it's associated rubbish.
