THE CAR belonging to the head groundsman at Hampshire Cricket's Ageas Bowl rolled down a hill this morning and crashed into part of the stadium.

Nigel Gray found himself inspecting the wreckage of his car after it rolled down hill from the top car park and smashed into the cricket school, leaving it wedged between the bulding and the hill.

Daily Echo:

It is believed that he had left Vauxhall Meriva in a car park overlooking the ground overnight, and the accident was because the handbrake failed.

Staff at the ground was almost as stunned as Nigel was, when they took a look and surveyed the damage.

One member of staff, who did not want to be named, described the moment that Mr Gray found his car.

Daily Echo:

He said: “He was horrified when he saw it and had his head in his hands.

He likened Mr Gray's reaction to looking like Edvard Munch's famous painting 'The Scream'.

For Mr Gray, it adds another story to the many he has experienced during his 25-years at Hampshire Cricket club.

The long-serving Groundsman has had many ups and downs at the club, and he was even awarded a testimonial in 2012.

Daily Echo tried to contact Mr Gray, but he was unavailable for comment.

It is not yet known if the car is a write-off, but it may require a crane to be removed.
