COUNCILLORS have thrown out plans to build a 14 turbine wind farm north of Winchester.
EDF energy renewable wanted to build the two mile square wind farm, at Bullington Cross but councillors supported the officers recommendation to refuse.
The turbines would have been up to 126 metres tall on farmland near to the A34/A303 junction Planning officers at Winchester, Test Valley and Basingstoke and Deane councils all recommended that the scheme near should be rejected.
In the end councillors across all three districts voted to agree with the officers recommendation to reject the scheme by a majority decision.
The meeting at Winchester Guildhall heard objections range from the MoD and nearby Popham airfield that it would impact a low level flying zone, ecology experts that species would be harmed by the development and that it would have a negative visual impact on the area.
