POLICE are warning people to stick together at night in Southampton after a man was robbed of £250.

A 20-year-old was approached by another man in Bedford Place at the junction with Carlton Place and forced to withdraw the money from a nearby cash machine at McColls Newsagent.

The thief then walked off into Wilton Avenue toward Milton Road.

He was described as black, in his mid-20s, about 5ft 7in, of medium build and speaking with a local accent.

The man was wearing a white baseball cap, dark hooded top with grey hood and black trousers and he also had a black Duffel-style bag with thin rope straps over both shoulders.

The incident took place at about 1.50am on June 12.

PC Chris Orr said: “This is a time when many people were leaving clubs and pubs and getting taxis home.

“Please consider walking home with friends to prevent lone people becoming victims of crime and where possible use city registered taxis.”
