THE development of a former Winchester care home will go ahead despite residents’ objections.
Civic chiefs met to discuss the demolition of Victoria House on Victoria Road which will make way for the development of 27 new flats which could cost over £6m.
Planning officials originally rubber-stamped the project back in February but were forced to review it following a number of objections from residents.
Five letters were received citing issues with the development’s appearance, materials and proximity to the road.
Cllr Dominic Hiscock said: “[Residents] were listened to and the council came back with a good solution. Most of their concerns have been addressed and I’m pleased about how that has happened.”
The development will include 11 one-bed and seven two-bed flats and nine two-bed flats with a basement car park.
The aim of the project is to free up larger council-owned family homes across the district.
The committee voted unanimously in favour of the application
