Daily Echo:

4:03pm

Forensic teams are now searching bushes in Devonshire Road although officers will not confirm exactly what they are looking for.

They are also looking through waste and recycling bins in the road and appear to have almost finished a search of the area cordoned off.

3:41pm

Aime Gotte, who lives in Morris Road, said he saw the police raid a house over the road following the incident last night.

Aime, 24, said: "I didn't see anyone get hurt but I heard lots of shouting and then looked out the window and saw the police were there asking all the people to get out of the house now.

"They went in once and they came out with a guy and then they went in a second time and took another man out.

"Then they went back in again and it seemed like they were looking for someone else as they went round the back of the house too, but I don't think they found who they were looking for."

3:24pm

Detectives are going door-to-door in Morris Road speaking to residents about the incident.

Meanwhile the forensic team continues to search drains but residents are being allowed to go past the cordon and are being escorted to their homes.

3:05pm

Daily Echo:

2:56pm

Sajid Mahmood, of Morris Road, said: "We saw flashing lights and so came out here and saw lots of police around.

"It's not something you ever expect to see in your street. My younger brother lives very near the scene and he didn't know anything had happened until the police arrived.

"You hear a lot of noise on the weekends with all the students about but you never think this kind of thing can happen where you are."

2:38pm

Daily Echo:

Officers removing evidence.

2:32pm

Police have now extended their cordon to block off almost all of both Morris Road and Devonshire Road.

2:02pm

Daily Echo:

1:53pm

Three of the forensic search team have gone around the back of a house at the end of Morris Road after searching through a green recycling bin outside.

They closed a side gate behind them.

Meanwhile another neighbour in Morris Road, who lives in a house inside the cordon, said a man and woman were in the street arguing before police arrived last night.

He said: "At 8/9pm My friend came in and said a couple, a man and a woman, were arguing outside. I don't know if that had anything to do with it.

"I was sleeping and only woke up when the ambulances a police were outside already so I didn't see what happened."

12:50pm

One neighbour who lives near the murder scene said she heard a scream at around 10pm last night.

The woman, who asked not to be named, said: "Somebody screamed but I could not tell if it was a man or a woman. To be honest I hear that sort of thing a lot with all the students who come around here.

"When you get used to hearing it you don't really think about what has happened and then you hear something like this has occurred which is very scary."

12:15pm

12:04pm

Another neighbour, a student who asked not to be named, said she tried to get into Morris Road at 11pm but found emergency services on the scene.

She's said: "Police warned me I should go and stay at a friend's house as I asked to get across to my home. It is very worrying but a lot of the people who live here are students who are leaving for the summer at the end of the week so they can get away from it."

11:51am

Harry Boota, of Morris Road, said he was shocked at the death of a pensioner just metres away from his house.

Mr Boota, 58, said: "I have just moved back to Southampton a month ago after living here 18 years ago. Southampton never used to be like this. It's very worrying to have something like this happen right on your doorstep.

"I was at home all day yesterday and didn't see anything until all these police cars were here and the ambulance took this man to hospital. You hate to hear about this kind of thing."

11:21am

SOUTH Central Ambulance Service has confirmed that they were called to the scene at 10.14pm last night.

A spokesperson said they were called to an address in Morris Road after a 999 call.

The service sent an ambulance, an ambulance officer and also a Hazardous Area Response Team (HART).

The spokesperson said that the nature of the call “fitted the criteria” to send a HART unit.

However, the service was unable to confirm why one was deployed in this case.

The spokesperson confirmed that one casualty was conveyed to hospital by ambulance.

11:16am

Workmen were at the scene at around 10.30 washing down the pavement.

A team of around eight officers and PCSOs remain with one police can behind the cordon.

11:15am

Pensioner Ronnie Barratt, also of Morris Road, said a woman tried to help the victim before police arrived.

She said: "A woman was administering aid to the man on the ground and there was lots of blood. There was a lot of hearsay as someone said it was a hit and run but it was a stabbing.

11:00am

Daily Echo:

Khalid Mahmood, of Morris Road, said: "I was sitting at home when my brother came round and said did I know what was going on in the road?

"I came out and police were everywhere and there was a lot of blood on the pavement. There was also a chap being held by police for quite a while before they took him away.

"They cordoned off the road and then a constable was going door-to-door taking statements from residents asking if we had seen anything. Apparently this chap had been stabbed in the neck and had died overnight."

Mr Mahmood, 50, added: "This really worries me. I have been here since the 1970s and this was a street for families and elderly people but now we do get a bit of trouble."

10:48am

Part of Morris Road is currently closed whilst a forensic investigation is carried out and is likely to remain closed for most of today.

10:46am

The four arrested people - three men aged 35, 43 and 53, and a 69-year-old woman - are currently in custody they will be questioned by police throughout today.

10:45am

Police confirmed they are currently identifying and tracing next-of-kin, and will not be in a position to confirm the identity of the victim until they have been informed and formal identification has taken place.

It's one of life's mysteries that anyone could defend the hell-hole that is Southampton.

A Police Officer of my acquaintance who works in the town calls it 'the wild west'.

I'd like to evacuate (most) people, and get the Luftwaffe back in.

Gotham City indeed.

Someone made a crack about the city turning into a Gotham city yesterday and at the time I thought it was insensitive but now I can't help but wonder.

Crime in Southampton is getting more shocking, increased shoplifting, assaults, sexual attacks and now another murder.

It's about time something is done, we need more police in our streets and tougher penalties for offenders.

My thoughts are with the poor man's family and hope justice will be served

Move on with your life & don't bother going to the effort of logging on to this website & commenting about a story that doesn't affect you in any way then.
Especially if you no longer live in the area & find Southampton so offensive?. ;-)

Eh? Heaven is a "low crime area"?

If the Big Man can't eradicate crime given:
a) His omnipotence
b) His punishment options and
c) only the good 'uns are supposed to get in

what chance have we mere mortals got.

You missed home invasions and arson off the list as they too are very popular, other than that - spot on.

You can't complain about it not being nice after calling it 'appropriate'.

Murder is not a nice thing. It's shocking, upsetting and ultimately dramatic for the people affected by it.

As a comment above says, this is a newspaper website and it is not their job to sugar the pill of reality. It's job to report what has happened - which is what they're doing.
