A HAMPSHIRE culture chief has won national recognition for her work chronicling a maritime family and Southampton’s Tudor past.

Eastleigh Borough Council’s head of culture Dr Cheryl Butler was presented with the national award by The British Association for Local History (BALH) in Euston, London, as part of Local History Day.

As well as undertaking her own research and writing and producing three volumes for the Southampton Records Series Dr Butler has inspired and managed two major projects.

The Diaper Heritage Association and Tudor Revels, both of which earned Heritage Lottery Fund grants.
