A SOUTHAMPTON church is getting ready to celebrate diversity in its community.

They are inviting members of the public to celebrate an International Weekend.

The Victory Gospel Church in Portswood will be hosting the free event which celebrates a variety of cultures.

Previously an annual event only open to members of the church, this year the Rev Josh White wants everyone to get involved.

There will be a community day featuring a barbecue, bouncy castle, arts and crafts, a mechanical bucking bull as well as international musical and dance performances, and there will also be stalls with information about church outreach projects – all for free.

Set to be a weekend of international education, there will then be a service in the church including a performance from an Indian dance group.

The Rev White said: “We have at least 50 different nations of the world in our church and even more in the Southampton community. This day is a chance to celebrate and learn about all the different cultures.

“It’s also a chance for people in the city to come a get to know us, it’s all about getting involved and accepting the people in your community.”

Everyone is invited to attend the community day which is on Saturday July 5 from 11.30 to 3pm in the Victory Centre, Portswood Road and the service on Sunday July 6 from 10am to noon in the church.
