IT may not have been Glastonbury – but they loved every minute of it.

Shoppers in a Hampshire town were treated to a concert by singer Crystal Cooper, who celebrated her 19th birthday by opening her own boutique.

A small crowd gathered outside Crystabella’s in Water Lane, Totton, as she belted out a series of hit songs.

Crystal, who has performed at London’s O2 Arena, was cheered and applauded as she sang Listen by Beyonce, Dance with my Father by Luther Vandross and I’m Alive by Celine Dion.

The former Brockenhurst College student and her family have transformed a former letting agents’ into a ladies’ fashion store.

Crystal, of Totton, said: “It’s something I’ve wanted to do ever since I left college, although I’m still going to pursue my singing.”

She praised all the help and support she had received from members of her family, including her mum Tracy and her aunt, Lisa Cooper.

She said: “I’ve got a great family behind me – they’re just amazing.

“I went away to the Canary Islands for a week’s holiday and came back to find that most of the shop had been done, which was a bit of a surprise.”

After using the pavement as a makeshift stage, Crystal celebrated the start of her new business venture by opening a bottle of champagne.

She said: “I’m aiming to cater for people of all ages, from teens to older women. The shop sells a wide range of clothes – we’ve got something for everyone.”

As reported in the Daily Echo, Crystal’s talent was discovered in her mother’s kitchen.

In January last year she got a second chance to perform at the O2 Arena after reaching the final of a national contest called Open Mic UK.
