IT’S set to be one of the biggest parties that the city has ever seen.

Southampton Common will be transported back to the ’80s next weekend as some of the biggest music stars of the decade descend for an all-day extravaganza.

More than 10,000 tickets have already been sold for the Let’s Rock! concert which will see performances from artists including Bananarama, ABC and headliner Billy Ocean.

A giant stage will be put in place ready for Saturday’s event – the first time it has ever come to Southampton having proved an enormous success in other parts of the UK including Bristol, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire.

Although there is less than a week to go, it’s not too late to book tickets for the one-day festival which happens to take place as celebrations continue to mark 50 years since Southampton was awarded city status by the Queen.

But you could also be one of ten lucky Daily Echo readers who stand a chance of winning tickets for you and three friends or family members as we team up with Let’s Rock! to offer a bumper ticket giveaway today.

Charity Child Bereavement UK is also set to benefit from the Let’s Rock! concert, having been chosen as a charity partnership by organisers Matt Smith and Nick Billinghurst.

As well as a main stage for music, there will also be a children’s zone where youngsters can learn circus skills like juggling and unicycling while there will also be plenty of stalls at the site selling food and drink.

A park and ride scheme will run from the sports ground in Wide Lane, Eastleigh, throughout the day while a shuttle bus service will be operating between the ferry terminal, railway station and Southampton Common.

Limited car parking will also be made available at Richard Taunton Sixth Form College in Hill Lane.

Gates will open on the pathway near to The Cowherds pub on The Avenue on Saturday at 11am with music starting at noon and continuing throughout the day until 10.30pm.

Matt Smith told the Daily Echo it is looking like it will be an incredible day.

He said: “This is our last Let’s Rock! event of the season and we want to go out with a bang.

“We have an amazing line-up and are very much looking forward to coming to Southampton for the first time.”
