More than 10,000 people set to attend the Let's Rock! concert at Southampton Common
MORE than 10,000 people are set to descend on Southampton Common today for the biggest party the city has seen in years.
Leg-warmers, sweat bands, neon outfits and crimped hair will be a fashion must for revellers as they prepare to be transported back to the 1980s for a day-long festival.
It’s the first time Let’s Rock!
has come to Southampton and organisers want to make sure it goes off with a bang.
Yesterday the stage was in position and production crews were busy putting the finishing touches in place for what promises to be a spectacular day to remember.
Today’s events get under way at 11am when the gates will open to the festival at the entrance close to The Cowherds pub on The Avenue.
And just an hour later the music will begin when Brother Beyond open the show.
Fans will then be treated to more than ten hours of backto- back music from bands and artists including Heaven 17, Go West, Bananarama, Howard Jones and Billy Ocean, who will bring the show to a close at 10.30pm.
Billed as a family day out, there will be plenty of things happening to amuse the kids too including the chance to try your hand at circus skills or enjoy some fairground rides.
The party in the park, the likes of which has not been seen in the city since the days of Power In The Park, will be compered by children’s TV legends Pat Sharp and Dave Benson Philips.
Today’s concert is the last in the summer 2014 series for organisers who are already turning their attention to next year and organising Let’s Rock! concerts across the country.
l Tickets can still be bought at the box office near the entrance today.
