A HAIRDRESSER from Southampton was rallying for support today to save a children’s community playground.

To celebrate 10 years working in Bitterne, Emma Bungay is hoping to make a difference for families across the city.

With the council making cuts across the city, Emma has decided to take matters into her own hands.

As the owner of A Haircut 4u in Bitterne precinct, she has seen the deterioration of the children’s play area outside her store and hopes to raise £5,000 to bring it back to life.

She has backing from Rowenna Davis, Labour’s parliamentary candidate for Southampton Itchen, and together they are promoting a fun day today to boost funds.

Emma said: “For our children’s future it’s really important that something is done about this. I’m a really busy mum as well as a businesswoman, but this is vital to me and I couldn’t stand by and not do anything about it.”

The fun day takes place in Bitterne precinct from 1pm, with Emma offering haircuts and beard trims for donations as well as organising a bouncy castle, face painting, cakes and a raffle.
