THERE was plenty of messing about in boats as families took to the water to re-ignite Hampshire's Olympic legacy.
More than 1,000 people gathered at one of the county's most popular waterside spots for the River Hamble Games 2014.
The Hamble foreshore and surrounding village formed the venue for an array of races and challenges involving sailing, kayaking, rowing, swimming and paddleboarding.
Runners puffed and panted their way along 5km and 10km shoreline runs while youngsters battled it out in a children's sports day with egg and spoon, three legged and sack races, plus a tug of war.
Phoenix School of Martial Arts wowed crowds with their Taekwondo display and Jem Tennis helped people brush up their racquet skills.
Little ones enjoyed a crabbing competition, teddy bears' picnic, Punch and Judy show and hopped on the jungle buddies playbus.
The Hamble Sea Scouts and Hamble Lifeboat also set up stalls.
The St Andrew's Pipe Band marched through the High Street and the event climaxes with a spectacular after games party.
Games committee member Caroline Barber said: “It's been really busy and a really fun family foreshore day out.”
