HUNDREDS of people jumped at the chance to take a look behind the doors of Calshot Lifeboat Station.
They saw the boats and had the chance to talk to the volunteers who crew the vessels, risking their lives to save people in peril.
Other attractions were RNLI mascot Stormy Stan, a zumba display, New Forest Martial Arts and the Hythe Ukulele Band. The air ambulance flew in and Southampton tug boats put on a show. The Coastguard helicopter was due to fly in, but was called away to an emergency in Newhaven.
Calshot RNLI press officer Lucy Kneller-Hole said: “We have had a jam-packed day, a very successful open day showing what we do.”
Local business So handed over a cheque for £450.
