IT was a dream run for some and a nightmare ride for others.

Crowds lined the streets of Romsey last night to cheer on competitors in the Hampshire town’s annual Bed Race.

The ten teams tucked up in eye-catching cribs for a fancy dress racecourse starting and finishing at Alma Road car park.

And there was plenty to keep them awake en route with Romsey Scouts and the town’s Youth Carnival hurling waterbombs and custard pies and Hampshire Fire and Rescue blasting them with hoses.

The George’s Trust team, dressed in a beach theme, earned themselves a yawning gap between the rest of the field to run out winners, while the Bishop’s Blaize pub scored best dressed with their Flintstone’s theme.

It formed the highlight of the Romsey Carnival, which included a go-kart race and performances by the Romsey Old Cadets band while carnival queen Georgia Fernley started the races.
