Man repays just £730 of £55,000 he got from drugs

First published in News

A SOUTHAMPTON man has been ordered to pay a fraction of the money he had benefited from through drugs.

The city crown court heard the sum was £53,341 but only £730 of that was available for confiscation, so Judge Peter Ralls QC made an order for that sum.

Kevin Culpin, 47, of Hazel Road, Woolston, had been jailed for 28 months last month for possessing cocaine.

Repay? To whom? This is money willingly handed over by people to him in exchange for drugs. Is he supposed to phone up all his customers and give them a refund? What a ridiculous angle.

The confiscation order is not an order to repay anyone; it's intended to prevent a convict from profiting from their crime.
