The attempt was organised by Hampshire Music Hub with CBeebies presenter Justin Fletcher conducting the children in renditions of some classic songs.
Saints song And they did not ignore the setting, performing a rousing version of |When the Saints Go Marching In.
It was also attended by Mayor of Southampton Sue Blatchford and Hampshire County Council chairman Colin Davidovitz.
Councillor Davidovitz said: “It was tremendous fun. There was a huge amount of children |from all over Hampshire being driven in by the busload.
“The stadium just rang with sound when they strummed their ukuleles and sang along to When the Saints Go Marching In.
“I should think the noise could be heard all over the town.”
But the record cannot officially be broken until ratified by the Guinness Book of World Records.
