LYMINGTON’S new-look carnival takes place tomorrow – with organisers vowing that it will be the biggest event of its type in the town for a generation.

In a break with tradition, the carnival is being held on a Sunday instead of the usual Saturday in a bid to revitalise the event and raise even more money for good causes in the area.

Thousands of people are expected to line the streets as the floats leave the Town Hall and make their way around the town centre.

Following the parade the action will switch to the town’s main sports ground, which is staging a fete featuring live music, morris dancing and a dog show.

Martin Ward, president of Lymington Lions Club, which is staging the event, said: “We’re looking to generate a record amount of money from the day with the most amazing carnival the town has seen for a generation.”

After moving off at 11am, the floats will travel along Avenue Road, Southampton Road, Queen Street, St Thomas Street, High Street, Gosport Street, Marsh Lane and East Hill.
