Five Southampton homes have been burgled in just four days as thieves take advantage of the hot weather.

Officers are investigating a spate of break-ins in Shirley after thieves got inside homes through open windows and unlocked doors.

Residents are being warned to keep their homes locked up and keep valuables away from open windows.

In the early hours of Monday burglars stole a haul of items from a ground-floor flat in Mansel Road West after getting in through a small open window.

A silver Toyota Enigma, registration K34 R0R, was also taken from outside.

That evening another flat in Regents Park Road was targeted, with thieves taking an iPad and iPad Mini which were left by an open window.

Three nights earlier, two homes were targeted in Lancaster Road and Palm Road while the occupants were asleep upstairs. A red leather wallet containing bank cards was stolen from Palm Road and a cloth handbag was taken from Lancaster Road while a wallet and laptop were stolen from a home in Rosewall Road after a back door was left open.
