THIEVES have stolen two distinctive gold diamond rings worth £18,000 from a Hampshire home after a window was left open overnight.
The 69-year-old victim woke up to discover that her treasured rings were missing from the mat where she left them, close to her bedroom window which she left open when she went to bed.
The rings, worth £10,000 and £8,000, were specially made from diamonds that belonged to a relative.
Officers investigating the theft in Minster Court, Paynes Road, believe the thief simply reached in through the window and stole the jewellery.
During the past week, five homes have been targeted with many seeing items stolen as a result of windows being left open and valuables being left nearby.
Anyone with information about the theft, which happened overnight on Monday, should contact DS Kate Gunson, at Bitterne police station on 101.
