A PENSIONER died after falling backwards down the stairs at his home, an inquest heard.

Retired Trevor Butler, 77, suffered bleeding on the brain after the fall at his home in Steep Close, Highfield, Southampton.

Mr Butler died in Southampton General Hospital four days later, on April 28, after a scan found a severe bleed that could not be treated.

Southampton coroner Grahame Short ruled that the death was accidental.
