A FORMER mental health centre in Southampton could be turned into homes.

City council bosses voted to close Bedford House in 2012 in a bid to save costs.

Colvadene Properties Ltd has now come forward with a plan to redevelop the site in Amoy Street and create 19 houses.

If the firm’s plans are approved by the council, the purpose-built centre, which has been on the site since the 1970s, would be replaced with seven four-bed, seven three-bed and five two-bed homes.

A decision on the proposals is due by October 20.

As the reporter James is too lazy to complete the report I had to search the web for more info.
Bedford house was a day centre for people with mental health issues.
It's on Amoy st just behind the car park on Bedford place.
Here's a link to the planning application

Also, no such company as Colvadene Properties Ltd exists as far as I can tell although that is the name shown on the application. Maybe it is Culverdene Properties Ltd based in Bournemouth.

If the titleof the report didn't contain the word "mental" I doubt it would make the news. It's terrible how the stigma of mental health holds a macabre fascination... If it was a dental centre would anyone care. It was hardly Bedlam, just a day centre to support people with a common medical issue
