A PUBLIC paddling pool has had to be closed after a council says vandals wreaked havoc.
The facility, at St Johns Recreation Ground, in Hedge End, which is normally open every day, has been closed by Hedge End Town Council.
It said youngsters who had created a mud slide on the recreation ground had decided to wash off the mud in the paddling pool after it was closed.
It added town council staff had the next day found a litter bin had been broken into and its contents strewn in the pool and railings had been damaged while the mud had clogged the pool's filtration system and contaminated the water.
The nearby kiosk and other facilities were also dirty.
The town council clerk said the clean up could “take some time”.
