PLANS for hundreds of homes in the Hampshire countryside have been turned down – for the second time.

The Bursledon, Hamble-le-Rice and Hound Local Area Committee had already refused applications by developers to build homes on two sites in the Hamble and Bursledon areas.

More than 150 people packed into Hamble Primary School back in March to make their feelings known about plans to build homes on fields off Hamble Lane, in Netley, as well as a 60-bed care home and station expansion.

Residents feared that the development proposed by Hallam Land Management would overwhelm local facilities and cause further traffic problems, though the developers said it would enhance the station and encourage people to use public transport.

And in April proposals by Barratt Homes to build up to 125 homes and a 70-bed care facility on land at Berry Farm in Hamble Lane, Bursledon were also voted against by councillors.

However, after a Government inspector upheld an appeal at another nearby site, these were recalled for further discussion.

Plans for up to 150 homes off Hamble Lane, in Bursledon were refused by councillors, which led to a three-day public inquiry that found in favour of developers Taylor Wimpey.

As a result the council said it was good practice to reconsider these two applications in light of the findings of the appeal as decisions have not yet been formally issued.

However, councillors still refused both.
