CELEBRATION has swept through Hampshire today to mark one of the biggest events on the Islamic calendar.

Muslims everywhere have come together for Eid festivities, marking the end of Ramadan, the holy month of fasting.

In Southampton, more than 3,000 people went to the Abu Bakr mosque for prayers and breakfast, and more went to Southampton Medina Mosque before spending the afternoon with family.

Some of the communities from within the mosques will also gather this afternoon, including the Somalian community who have planned a feast at the Abu Bakr Mosque and the Afghan community who will gather for a picnic and barbeque in the New Forest.

During Ramadan, the Abu Bakr Mosque raised £1,700 which will go to the people of Gaza.
