She has devoted her days to boosting her community and reaching out to residents.

That’s why Debbie Haskell has been nominated for the Daily Echo’s Community Star campaign.

The 49-year-old from Redbridge works with adults who have learning difficulties at the Warren Centre in Shirley Warren and she has been determined to make a difference in the surrounding area.

Since starting at the centre 13 years ago Debbie, who was nominated by former employee Melanie Ward, has joined various city committee boards to rally for improved public services and support.

She has also been responsible for transforming the garden behind Shirley Warren Church, is constantly fundraising and also works with the Sure Start advisory board as an independent voice for parents.

She has also helped the local Beavers group, organises the church fete and big fun run to support breast cancer every year and likes to get involved with the Philippine community fund.

Debbie said: “I just love to help people and can’t really say no, if somebody needs help I’m not going to walk away. Since I have been working at the centre I have noticed there is less vandalism, people know me which is lovely and helps keep me inspired to help.”
