EXCITED screams echoed through the centre of Southampton last night as fans welcomed former Busted star Charlie Simpson.

Charlie visited the city as part of the latest leg of his tour promoting his new solo album Long Road Home.

Formerly part of the much-loved Brit awardwinning boy-band trio Charlie has since found success in his band Fightstar and is now going it alone.

He visited the HMV store in Above Bar Street for a live performance and album signing.

Fans Chloe Hall, 15 from Hythe, and Katherine McCoy, 16, from Marchwood, said they had “butterflies” as they waited in the queue to see the star.

Chloe said: “We have always followed his music and it’s so good that he is coming to see people in our area, his music is amazing and it’s a real privilege to be able to meet him.”

Charlie said: “I love Southampton, the Guildhall is one of my favourite music venues and I had a great night out here during my stay. I’m really excited about the new album. It’s got a great live, warm sound to it and it’s so nice to see so many people coming to listen.”
