IT is hard enough for any family to cope with the sudden death of a loved one.

But how much harder is it for those left behind when so many questions remain, such as in the case of young mum Lucy Simms.

As we report today, those closest to Lucy are no nearer to having a definitive account of the hours leading up to her sad death despite an inquest held yesterday.

Her family are angry that convicted rapist Lloyd Phillips was not questioned at the hearing over his role in the tragedy.

It’s a pity that Phillips was not present, or at least called to give evidence via a video link, particularly as he was the last person to see her alive.

That in itself appears to be more than good reason for calling him to give his account.

In short, Lucy’s family deserve more answers.

It will not end the pain but would at least give some closure to help them deal with their loss.

Lucy’s death once again highlights the dangers of so-called legal highs, an issue on which the Daily Echo is campaigning.

Although the drug that killed Lucy was banned shortly after her death, this newspaper remains convinced that much more needs to be done.
