Work was the main source of angst and general day-to-day activities were the second biggest trigger.
Out of the 2,000 people surveyed, a quarter also said they suffered morning stress caused by overtiredness, feeling overweight and being late.
Another quarter of adults spent more time feeling stressed than relaxed because having all-day access to the Internet on their phone meant they could never escape work.
Meanwhile a separate survey by charity shopping organisation Give as You Live found employees in Southampton spend 15 minutes every day shopping online when they should be working.
