WHEN a Hampshire woman saw the desperate plight of Syrians shown on television, she immediately wanted to do something to help.
Now Nicky Head is celebrating after organising a successful community fundraiser in Chandler’s Ford which has raised hundreds of pounds.
The proceeds will go to Shelterbox which provides displaced families in Syria with large tents and boxes of essential aid.
Despite torrential rain from the remnants of Hurricane Bertha, more than 200 people gathered at Fryern Recreation ground.
There were a range of stalls, crafts and fairground rides, a Punch and Judy show and live music.
The fundraiser raised more than £500, and organiser Nicky was delighted.
She said: “Despite the weather lots of people came along to support us. Everybody was happy and had a good, fun afternoon. We raised lots of money and overall we are very happy.”
She added that she hopes to organise similar events in the future.
