A WINCHESTER group is going for gold this summer in a bid to provide wheelchair access for disabled residents.

Following their successful campaign in 2013, Winchester Area Access for All (WAAFA) is again fighting to make more shops and businesses across the city centre wheelchair-friendly.

Last year the charity assessed over 60 businesses in Winchester High Street.

One was awarded gold, 17 were awarded silver and 11 were given bronze.

Keith Hatter, of WAAFA, said: “We believe this project will benefit not only those who live and work in Winchester, but also the many tourists who are attracted by the high quality chain stores and interesting independent shops in the city.

“WAAFA will be conducting surveys at shops in Jewry Street, City Road, The Broadway and Bridge Street.”
