BRIGHT bold and brought right up to date – that was the result of a restyle of the Guides led by a budding young Hampshire designer.
Jessica Gray from Romsey was one of a team of five tasked to revamp the Guides’ uniform while studying fashion at the Arts University Bournemouth
The 22-year-old former Hampshire Collegiate School pupil, helped create a range of clothing for girls aged ten to 14 in the organisation formed in 1910.
The range includes a choice of tops to wear with trousers, leggings, skirts, jeans and shorts as well as a uniform dress and skirt - and not a neckerchief in sight.
The last Guide uniform redesign was in 2000 and feedback from girls was that it was time for a makeover.
To create the designs Jessica and her team spent a year consulting with Guides, who told them they wanted choice, and asked for the clothes to be comfortable and not too ‘boyish’.
Jessica is now working in Leicestershire after securing an internship as a design assistant for Asda’s George range.
