FORMER Saint Francis Benali has reached Sunderland as he aims to run 1,000 miles for charity.

The Saints legend reached Sunderland's Stadium of Light after setting off from Newcastle United's St James' Park this morning.

The fearless left-back is running to all 20 Premier League grounds as part of Benali's Big Run, which will see him run 1,000 miles in the hope of raising £1million for Cancer Research.

Benali raised more than £31,000 for the charity before even taking one stride forward in the challenge.

REGULAR coverage please Echo (and I don't often shout capitals)
This is way more interesting and news worthy than the current **** ups at St Mary's. I will be contributing financially and hopefully physically, this calibre of guts and determination could see me back at St Mary's on a regular basis.
Good man St Francis, patron Saint of Ultra Runners.
