Chance to meet local police

NEW arrivals to Southampton from eastern Europe can meet their local bobbies.

Police will gather at the next EU Welcome team meeting on Thursday, September 4.

It runs from 6pm-7.30pm in the Freemantle and Shirley Community Centre in Randolph Street, and is a chance for people to find out about a range of services, including housing and employment.

I'm not entirely sure I like the idea of this. Many people come to the UK thinking they can have a better life and it's not always the way.

Whilst many Eastern Europeans have settled nicely and are contributing to the economy there are many who are let down.

I somehow feel meetings such as this encourage people to come here without doing their own research first. I wouldn't dream of going to a foreign Country unless I knew I had a home and job to go to, unless I was a tourist obviously.
