POLICE are hunting a man who knocked out a taxi driver in a late-night assault.

The 28-year-old victim was allegedly assaulted at the junction of Mansbridge Road and Howard Close in Swaythling.

The man was found by a colleague and taken to Southampton General Hospital for treatment after the incident, which happened between 12.30am and 1.30am on Sunday, August 17.

Police say the man, who may be able to help with their enquiries, is white and in his late twenties or early thirties, around six feet tall, has short dark hair, and was wearing a navy blue t-shirt and dark jeans.

The incident came just two days before a taxi driver was allegedly stabbed in the leg near Southampton Central Station.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call 101 and ask to speak to police sergeant Neville Stokes.

Why are people voting the comments down?!

It helps to know his accent as if you see a guy looking like this with a Polish accent but the article says he's British then there's no need to make the call.

Some people really need to get a grip and stop playing the race card. These will be the same people who laughed at Alf Garnet in the 70s. Hypocrites.

The Alf Garnett character (brilliantly written by Jonny Speight) In Sickness and in health was a parody. Folk were laughing at him, not with him.

Obvious answer could be that our local rag doesn't want to be helpful to the police in finding the alleged attacker / suspect in serious case of assault.

Picture should be displayed, Because somebody may recognise him and inform the police.

It may be interesting to know, at what level Echo's decision to remove the picture was made, but that is highly unlikely because although the hypocrites Journos love talking about freedom of press and people's right to know, they hardly ever expose their own irresponsible colleagues who avoid helping the police in solving serious crime.

Er, because the creator of the character is dead maybe. Garnett was a bigoted zenophobe who was in fact of European heritage, hence why he was played by Warren Mitchell who is of Russian jewish descent.

And? Re-runs happen, not for this show though.

Its not on TV because back then it was ok to say N words on TV and have millions laugh at it. Now its not, because everyone has lost their minds about what is ok and what is not to say in public, despite people being on TV and in the public eye doing and saying worse - including politicians. People who run the country.

And a few people in Southampton - an area notorious for immigration, unemployed immigrants and immigrant criminals - take offence to someone suggesting that a guy who looks a bit Polish could be Eastern European?!?!

Put on your big boy pants and look outside.
