IT’S ALL or nothing for the casino firms who are set to find out whether they are still in the running to operate Southampton’s gambling mecca.

The seven applications to run the enormous gamblers’ paradise at three city locations will be considered this week, and only some of the bids will go through to a second and final phase of the bidding.

As previously reported, Southampton is the last of eight cities and towns granted a super-casino licence to choose which firm will run the facility.

The five bidders – Grosvenor, Kymeira Casino Ltd, Genting Casinos UK Ltd, Global Gaming Ventures and Aspers – will face licensing chiefs on Thursday for the first of two hearings.

The second hearing – at which the winner will be announced – will take place within the next ten months.

The preferred site for the new casino is at the heart of the proposed Royal Pier waterfront development, with all five firms submitting bids to site the casino there.

However, Global Gaming Ventures has also handed in a bid to place it at the Watermark WestQuay development, while Grosvenor has handed in an application for it to be at the Leisureworld complex in West Quay Road.

City council licensing committee chairman Matt Tucker said: “The purpose of the meeting is for the committee to carefully consider the applications on their individual merits to determine whether they go from expressions of interest to something a bit more firm and final.”

Super-casinos can have up to 150 slot machines and 30 blackjack and poker tables.

And although licences have been given out at seven other councils, only two – in London and Milton Keynes – have actually been built.

Civic chiefs have long thought of the super-casino as a potential centre-piece for the £450m Royal Pier development.

A planning application for the site, which would also boast a luxury hotel, a new marina and homes, restaurants and bars, is likely to be submitted later this year.

Not me Lone people on the streets don't want a Casino, this is for the people of Southampton and to many are now becoming fed up with every thing being done for people living out of Southampton and not for those living inside of Southampton.
Unlike many on here I do have conections on the streets, So i done need to guest what they like getting told what they want, Just like Oaklands Swimming Pool it was some thing for the locals to use because thats what they wanted and out siders could use it also, I had one remark that made me smile alot, One young Lady said let them build it in chilworth seeing that they are the few that want it the most and they don't live inside of Southampton.
More people are in favour of some thing like the old Royal Pier with a multi fuction Hall where it can be a dance hall or concert. The old Royal Pier how it use to be bought in outsiders as far as South London.
Do what the few want and have this Casino and more people from the city will avoid Southampton and head else where.

What people on the streets? Has there been a poll? Do you have any evidence or are you just making it up? Did you go out there with a clipboard and a pen to **** these 'peoples on the streets' opinion?

I'm afraid your 'one young lady' doesn't quite cut it, was this down the chippy as well?

You are making it up. It's so obvious to see.

This is why you have failed so spectacularly at politics Peter.

It was never about what your potential constituents wanted, it was about what you wanted that fitted with your political doctrine.

You have no credible evidence that this is what the 'people' want, Your continuing references to 'outsiders' shows how out of touch you actually are.

Quite simply, you are lying.

You're even c**p at being a socialist which shines through in this comment.

Casinos are for adults. Therefore, let the adults decide what is best for them and Southampton because you are clearly not thinking in adults terms.

Time after time you have accused people of not seeing the 'big picture'.

Again, you have failed in this regard because your narrow minded ignorance has blinded you to the facts and the potential economic benefits that a casino could bring.

Although I suppose it could be down to sheer jealousy, like it usually is, that there maybe actually people out there who have worked hard for a little disposable cash to have a good time at a casino. Because you don't approve of people having a good time because you are incapable of it maybe.

You have no idea what you are talking about.

I'm afraid you are an obsolete person who cannot comprehend the 21st century. I can see you in your Victorian bathing costume now dipping your toe into the sea.

Either show us some real evidence that the 'people' who you are supposed to be fighting for are against a casino are against it - put up or shut up.

It really is quite pathetic.

A lot of people want a multi Functional Hall, some thing that can do Concerts and have a dance floor also and come part of the boat show, this is the sort of thing the majority wants.
And not what the minority that post on this web site, If you want to find out what people really want then you got to get down to street level where the majority are and ask, Not like what Shoong and Torchie go's on about, they don't have a clue what people want they just keep to there very tight few acquaintances, they are not willing to go to street level and ask and talk to people, so what ever they post is totally worthless its just there own thoughts on things and nothing else.

That is true Lone one of the small good things to happen, But yes there should be a Residence Only Referendum about the Casino, but its not going to happen apart from the cost it will also go against what the few want and not the majority and thats the reason why there not been any sort of vote on the idea.

It true is it not, you keep to a few people.
What was it you said about Oaklands Swimming Pool, would not happen we was only the small number ect ect ect, that turned out wrong for you and others did not, where you only concern your self with the minority few, I and Others was dealing with the majority and still do.
Its not a lie the only lie is coming from you because you do not know your not willing to listen to other people points of view unless they are the same as yours, Its what the Majority of People Want is not what you want.,
And more lies from you about the TUSC yet again, To know what going on with inside the TUSC you need to be a member and your not, where I am. But then I doubt if you can tell the difference between TUC and TUSC.

Its not a lie the only lie is coming from you because you do not know your not willing to listen to other people points of view unless they are the same as yours, Its what the Majority of People Want is not what you want., And more lies from you about the TUSC yet again, To know what going on with inside the TUSC you need to be a member and your not, where I am. I can't say it any clearer though Shoong has summed up the sentiments of a great number of people on here quite well. Kudos.
On here do not make the Majority it makes up the Minority, Shoong don't sum up any thing that counts he only keeps to few Minority acquaintance. If you want to find out what the Majority wants then you got to get down on the streets and ask and talk to people, because thats where the Majority is on the Streets not on here. And that is some I do, Shoong and Toruchie don't
You don't half talk some nonsense.

Are you sure you're not Jeffy with another username?

Ah the 'old come back later a day later to try and the last word in trick thinking that makes me right', come up with a new one.

'he only keeps to few Minority acquaintance'

WTF does that mean? THIS IS THE ISSUE PETER - you can't tell the difference between your opinion and facts - and you LIE CONSTANTLY WITH NO CREDIBILITY. YOU REPRESENT NO-ONE BUT YOURSELF.

Have an opinion, fine! But don't LIE about knowing what 'the people on the street want'.

Where have you been anyway? Sobbing down the 'phone to Nick Chaffey about the nasty man? It's no wonder eyes roll among TUSC members when your name is mentioned. I get the feeling they are not being completely genuine IF you still have any contact with that party.

You are lying - plain and simple.

Vanish.

Your making it up again.

Totally shot away.

Its fact camerajuan those that post on here is only a Minoruty few, But some to think that they make the Majority which they don't.
Wheres the nonsence in that statement there is none.
And Shoong don't sum up any thing only what he wants to think.
no nonsence in that also. He talks about the TUSC as low he go's to its meeting Shoong never been to any and pretends he knows what they are thinking, but he so far away from the truth.
If you want to find out what the Majority wants and thinks then you got to get onto the Streets and talk to people who you don't know as well as the ones you do know or at lest have some form of contact in the streets.
Wheres the nonsence in that and again there is none.

If it was the majority of people feeling on this web site then the Councillors would take note what is being said on here, But they don't take any notice on here and yes some councillors do post on here, but if they want to find out some thing then they go to the streets them selfs and deliver leaflets though the door, Like Moulton he was all for the Bio-mass for the docks at first, that was till he hit the streets and started to talk to people in his ward and the ones next door to his ward and had a change of heart about it.

God you whine like a mule!

You keep saying "people on the streets" but who are these people? Where is your evidence? Give it a rest for once. It's clear if it wasn't already that you actually have no clue.
