TWO people are still being questioned this morning about the murder of a mum-of-five who was stabbed to death in the New Forest as she tended to her horses.

Officers were granted another 24 hours to continue to quiz a 22-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murdering Pennie Davis, 47.

She was found by her husband, Pete, in a field at Leygreen Farm, Beaulieu, on Tuesday.

The supermarket worker, from Blackfield, died of multiple stab wounds, a post- mortem examination found.

A 24-year-old woman also remains in custody today on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.

A 37-year-old man arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender was bailed yesterday until October 23.

A Hampshire police spokeswoman said: ''Police continue to appeal to the public for any information which may help the investigation.''

Specialist forensics officers have made fingertip searches of the field and a nearby stretch of the Beaulieu River while police have also increased patrols in the area to offer reassurance to residents.

Pennie was widely known by her former surname Lambert before she married Pete, her fifth husband, in May.

She was a former employee at the Daily Echo where she worked as a business development representative at the paper from 2010 to 2011.

Pete, Pennie’s children and her parents have made an emotional visit to the paddock, leaving flowers with messages.

The family through police said they were devastated by the death of a ''remarkable person'' and ''devoted mother''.
